Urban Forestry Unit

About Us

The Urban Forestry Unit of Seattle Parks and Recreation manages the trees and urban forest of the developed and nature parks in Seattle. We carry out tree care operations like pruning, hazard tree removals and mitigation work, tree planting and are stewards of young tree care. The Urban Forestry Unit preserves and maintain the urban forest in parks and strives to grow and establish canopy cover for healthy and equitable communities.

We will be at Big Day of Play 2023 showcasing the equipment used in tree care operations like our aerial lift truck, tree climbing gear and putting up posters of the work we do. We’ll demonstrate some knot tying used in arboriculture tree climbing operations and also give out “cookies” (slices of wood that our crew has cut up).
